Entry: Lunch with my mentor... Apr 20, 2004

I finally got to meet my mentor from Enterprise. Her name is Brina and she works for the regional office as an accounting supervisor. She took me out to lunch. (It's the Enterprise culture. Free lunches if you work for enterprise.) We just hit it off. We both love traveling and value spending time with friends and loved ones.

This is a story that's going to make you girls aww...I awwed until my jaw was sore. She met her-now-husband of 5 years first day in High School. They dated for 8 years, including the time that she was away in Thailand teaching English for a year, and got married. Awww...How did they know??? My god, they dated for 4 years in high school, 4 years in college!!! It's giving me the chills. Aww..She is still so in love!!!!

Brina gave me a lot of suggestions and tips for work. I never realized that there are so many opportunities within Enterprise. If being a branch manager is not my thing, I can transfer to HR, training and development, accounting, and tons of other departments. I can even transfer to Europe!!! I realize that sales is not my thing even though I am quite good at it. I really enjoy interacting with people, recruiting and training and developing people. I am glad that she made me see the big picture. All i need to do is to tough it out and make it to the assistant or branch manager level so I will be able to transfer to other positions. I could see a clearer picture right now and feel more motivated!

What motivates you? I realize money doesn't motivate me. It's the possiblie opportunities in advancement that motivates me, it's the personal fulfilment that inspires me. It's so easy to get caught in your daily tasks, just remember to look at the big picture!

Aww...It's so sweet with Brina's love story. You can be with someone for 15 years and still in love?! Awww....

So, according to her schedule, I'm about 9 years behind schedule! :P If only I spoke English back in high school, I might have found my soul mate by now! :P I'm so happy that you are so motivated at Enterprise. Good for you! I think I need to see the big picture of my career at some point. But right now, I'm just trying to fit in. I think once the work load start to pick up, I'll be more motivated, as I thrive on tight deadlines and pressure.
